The Arizona Department of Transportation reported a total of 111,000 car accidents in Arizona in 2017. Nearly half of these accidents occurred on Phoenix roadways. If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, do you know the right steps to take after the incident?

Most people are left blindsided after a car accident. Their lives are turned upside down and they are unsure what to do to recover from the event. Worry no more as the following list outlines the steps you should take after a Phoenix car accident.

Step One: Identify Injuries

Most importantly, verify injuries of anyone inside your vehicle. Call 9-1-1 if anyone sustains injuries. Treating injuries is critical after an accident. Minutes matter. Worry about everything else once you know the health status of your passengers.

Step Two: Call the Police

If no one is injured in the accident, call the Phoenix Police Department. They will send out an officer who will collect an accident report and other information that you may need later in the matter if you decide to file a lawsuit.

Step Three: Exchange Information

Exchange information with the other driver involved in the accident. This includes name, insurance policy number and company name, driver’s license number, license plate number, and telephone number.

Step Four: Document the Scene

Write down your account of what happened to cause the accident but do not share this information with anyone else. Take photographs of the scene, including the road, the vehicles, and damages. You should also talk to witnesses at the scene if possible.

Step Five: Contact the Insurance Company

The sooner you contact the insurance company the sooner they can start the claims process. Some insurance agents like to show up at the scene of the accident to get things going.

Step Six: Contact a Auto Accident Attorney

A Phoenix personal injury lawyer, like Gary Phillips Accident Law Professionals has your best interests at stake. He can fight for justice if you are injured. He will ensure the responsible party pays for their mistake so you can make a full and complete recovery.
